Travel Savvy Mom's November Newsletter

Happy November!

Here's hoping the Great Pumpkin was good to you (and your kids left you some of the good Halloween booty, the little gluttons).

What's new with us?  You may have heard that Travel Savvy Mom took the Bronze for Best Travel Blog at the 2010 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards.  We're very excited and want to thank all our loyal contributors and readers for your help in making that happen.  Yes, that would be you.  Reach 'round and pat yourselves on the back.  We couldn't have done it without you.

Regards,

Jamie, Kayt and Jane

WHAT EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT:

Fear of Flying, the Series.

Jamie's five part Fear of Flying series remains very popular with our readers.  Is it to find tips to combat those airplane-related fears?  Or to see what else Jamie might admit to?  Read along to find out.

OUR FEATURED TRAVEL SAVVY MOM:
WHO: Julie Sudderth, from Kittery, Maine.  Julie is a stay-at-home Mom to Sam, 8, and Sofia, 7.
WHERE:  Vers-Pont-du-Gard, France.
WHY:  "My husband and I have traveled around France in the past and felt comfortable introducing the kids to their first overseas adventure here.  Plus, we were on the left side of the Rhone, which makes the area a little less crowded and less expensive than Provence."  The family stayed in a renovated farm house in the town center, giving them an open look into this town's culture and history.
IF YOU GO:  Julie says you can't miss kayaking down the Gordon River under the Pont-du-Gard.  She recommends Canoe Collias, an outfitter that allows self-guided tours so you can stop to picnic and swim.
HER DREAM TRIP:  There are so many places we'd love to experince but our dream trip would be a year-long around-the-world trip that included China and India.  Dream big, right?"

NEW FOR YOU:

Ever dreamed about backpacking the Grand Canyon with your kids?  Stop laughing!  It is indeed possible - and you can learn how to do it with this great interactive DVD, Backpack the Grand Canyon.

This DVD provides incredible and detailed information ranging from how to get a permit to where the restrooms and water faucets are located.  It's the perfect resource to help you plan a fun, memorable (and safe) trip the whole family.

We're giving away a copy this month exclusively to our newsletter readers this month.  If you'd like to enter to win, simply send an email to contests@travelsavvymom.com with the subject line "Backpack the Grand Canyon."  We'll pick one winner at random by the end of the month.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

Visiting Hoge Veluwe National Park With Kids

Hop on your bike and explore the Netherlands the Dutch way in Hoge Veluwe National Park.  There you can find free bikes, Van Goghs and a lot of pretty country where your kid can be a kid.

Swimming with the Dolphins Close to Home

Always dreamed of taking the kids to swim with the dolphins?  You can do it - and, likely, a lot closer to home than the Caribbean.
