Pousadas

The Pousadas are hotels located in historical buildings, castles, monasteries and palaces throughout Portugal. When you stay at one, it is easy to be transported back in time.

The Pousadas were originally owned by the state but are now partially privatised. They are divided in to four different types including historical Pousadas, nature Pousadas, Charm Pousadas and historic design Pousadas.

They vary in size, having between 9 and 49 rooms. In 2005 the first Pousada outside of Portugal was built at Salvador de Bahia in Brazil.

Hotel Reviews 2010

One in six tourists this summer was dissatisfied with their hotel and would not recommend it to other tourists.

This is the result of our investigation of over 18,000 hotel reviews from this summer. The least recommended hotels were in Tunisia, Egypt and the Dominican Republic.

The most common reasons were dirty linen, vermin, shabby furnishings and poor service.

Such disasters shouldn't be allowed to ruin your holiday. Why not help other travellers by writing a hotel review? Whether your experience was good or bad, we want to know!

The narrow streets of Lisbon provide an authentic Portuguese atmosphere. Cosy cafes in the romantic Alfama area of the city are a perfect place to experience the culture and cuisine of the city. Lisbon's location by the sea makes fish the speciality. Typical Portuguese dishes include grilled sardines, or porco bacalhau à alentejana.

There are 2 main things that characterize the Portuguese culture, the traditional music called Fado and the tiles seen on many of the buildings and houses known as Azulejo.
