The Iguazu Falls and the Devil's Throat lie on the border of Argentina and Brazil, and legend has it, that they were created by the local gods. They were recently shortlisted to be one of the new 7 Wonders of the World.

There are 275 separate waterfalls, and the tallest reach 82m in height. The two nearest towns are the Brazilian Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú in Argentina. Do you fancy dancing with the Devil?

The Gauchos

A tradition stretching back to the 18th century, gauchos have been a part of the South American culture for centuries, with Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Peru all having their own type. They lived a nomadic lifestyle in the wild plains, and have been the subjects for many poems and adventure stories.

They have a particular way of dressing, with ponchos and trousers called bombachas, which were originally a English import to the Americas from Turkey, as well as the famous bolas, which are used in herding the animals.

The Amazon River

The Amazon River is the biggest river in the world, and at some points it reaches as much as 120 miles wide. It is never crossed by a bridge.

It stems from a little glacial stream on Nevado Mismi, in the Peruvian mountains, and on its journey to the coast, passes through Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia. Manaus is the largest city in the area, and a popular holdiay resort, so why not go and check it out?

Some of the world's most famous animals live in the River Amazon, such as manatees, turtles and anacondas, along with 3,000 types of fish.
